Overview

Physioeducator is an edtech startup focused on delivering live educational classes about physiotherapy to students worldwide. The platform connects students and tutors for interactive, real-time learning sessions aimed at enhancing their physiotherapy skills.

Despite the platform's potential, its initial website was not generating sufficient enrollments from new students due to a lack of clear information and an underwhelming user experience. Recognizing the need for improvement, the client, Anupriya Ramesh, partnered with us to overhaul the website and create a more intuitive, visually appealing, and user-friendly interface.

The goal was to streamline the user journey, making it easier for students to explore, enroll in courses, and experience seamless live classes. Our redesign focused on improving both the visual aesthetics and user experience to drive student engagement and boost course enrollments.

Objectives

Identify the root causes of low student enrollments and optimize the user journey through user research and best practices.

Improve clarity in communicating Physioeducator’s value proposition to enhance user understanding.

Enhance the website experience with user-focused features to drive student enrollment and ensure seamless live class interactions.

Strategic Value

Through collaborative research with my team, we identified the key factors behind low student enrollments on the platform. We held several meetings with the client to understand her vision and insights, ensuring our design strategy was aligned with her goals. This approach focused on enhancing user experience, creating intuitive navigation, clearly communicating Physioeducator's unique value proposition, and providing accessible support—all while working closely with the development team to improve overall customer satisfaction.

"The revamped website design significantly improved communication of Physioeducator’s core value propositions in a cleaner and more visually appealing way. As a result, Physioeducator saw a 60% increase in student enrollment globally within the first month of the relaunch, drawing overwhelming interest from students worldwide."

The Challenge

Physioeducator faced challenges with low student enrollment, which indicated key friction points in the user journey that hindered seamless live class interactions. Our research uncovered several issues contributing to this problem, including:

01

Unclear messaging about Physioeducator’s services, leaving potential users confused about the platform's offerings and unique value proposition.

02

Lack of accessible contact information, making it difficult for users to connect with Physioeducator’s representatives, ultimately preventing them from progressing further in the enrollment process.

03

Absence of social proof, which caused potential users to doubt Physioeducator’s credibility, deterring them from signing up and engaging with the platform.

(Note: These were three of the five core issues identified through our research.)

How might we reimagine Physioeducator’s website to better communicate its offerings and build trust, in order to drive student enrollment and deliver a more seamless live learning experience?

Research

To address the challenges behind low student enrollment, I conducted thorough research, utilizing competitor analysis, user interviews, and usability testing to gain actionable insights:

01

Competitive Analysis: Analyzed competitor websites to identify opportunities for improvement and gathered insights to enhance Physioeducator’s platform for better engagement and conversions.

02

Low-Fidelity Wireframes: Designed initial wireframes to visualize potential solutions and align the platform's layout with user expectations, aiming to boost student enrollment.

03

Platform Assessment: Evaluated various edtech platforms to ensure Physioeducator’s website delivers an intuitive, user-friendly experience tailored to the needs of students for seamless navigation and course enrollment.

This research approach helped us uncover critical user pain points and their underlying causes, enabling us to craft strategies for improving the Physioeducator website. Using insights from competitor benchmarking, I led in redesigning the website with a focus on enhancing user experience and driving increased student enrollment.

Insights and Recommendations

Insight 1

Physioeducator's website struggled to effectively communicate its services. Although 62% of users grasped the basic concept, 70% found it difficult to fully understand the services and benefits due to poor readability and unclear information.

Main Problem

80% of survey respondents felt unsure about enrolling in courses due to unclear messaging about who Physioeducator was designed for and who was behind it. In user interviews, 22 out of 30 participants revealed that the course offerings and live interactive classes were not immediately apparent without scrolling, leading to confusion. The lack of clarity around how Physioeducator works and its benefits further contributed to user hesitation.

Recommendation 1

"Improve user comprehension of Physioeducator and its services by using simplified language and a clear content hierarchy, resolving confusion and enhancing the website's readability."

Revamped website with a clear value proposition and a hero image.

Present Physioeducator's value proposition prominently above the fold with clear messaging and a hero image that highlights its core service, ensuring users quickly grasp the primary offering.

Clearly communicate Physioeducator's course offerings and value through concise details on its time-saving benefits, features, and functionality to enhance user understanding.

Prioritize user-centric features, such as a prominent "Enroll Now" button (favored by 80% of users), for easy discovery and seamless course enrollment.

Redirect users to a concise course description page, offering a brief overview to spark interest without overwhelming them with excessive information, which can deter enrollment. This approach addresses competition from other platforms. Once enrolled, students gain full access to detailed course information, ensuring a smoother onboarding process and higher engagement.

Designed sign up page with Google integration which will help the developers to store the data in the backend regarding user information.

Payment validation cards have been implemented to clearly indicate successful and failed transactions, ensuring users feel informed and reassured during the payment process. Additionally, 404 error pages have been set up to guide users in case they are redirected to an unknown or unavailable page, preventing confusion and improving overall user experience.

Outcome

Following the restructuring of the website content, our latest usability test showed that all users found it significantly easier to access information about Physioeducator's services and benefits, resulting in a 60% increase in student enrollment.

Outcome

After restructuring the dashboard UI and optimizing content layout, our latest usability tests revealed that all users experienced significantly improved accessibility to information regarding live interactive tutor-student sessions. The enhanced interface now clearly displays class updates and upcoming schedules, providing a more intuitive and seamless interaction between students and tutors. This redesign minimized cognitive load and streamlined navigation, resulting in smoother, more successful class interactions and an overall improved user experience.

New Version

After successful course enrollment, students receive an email with a course overview, directing them to the dashboard. A brief loader appears before displaying the enrolled courses. Before enrolling students can choose between group sessions or 1:1 sessions with a tutor. The dashboard provides a clear view of their enrolled courses, complete with a progress bar indicating how much of the course is completed. Additionally, a personalized welcome message enhances the user experience, and students can suggest new courses if they are unavailable on the platform.

We implemented a clean and intuitive UI with straightforward input fields for users to easily add or update their personal information. Users can modify details at any time on this page and save changes with a seamless flow.

Upon completing all required inputs, success pop-ups confirm their updates, while error validations and red alert prompts ensure that users fill in all mandatory fields, enhancing form usability and reducing input errors. This approach improves the overall user experience by providing clear feedback and guidance throughout the process.

Personal Growth In leadership

Leading my first UX project was both challenging and insightful, marking a pivotal moment in my growth as a designer. This experience underscored the value of collaborative decision-making; by harnessing insights from users, team members, and stakeholders, we tackled complex design challenges and delivered a user-centered solution within tight timelines. This project honed my leadership skills in balancing agility with quality, as I learned to iterate and refine strategies in response to new insights and feedback. The result was a cohesive, high-quality UX solution that not only met but exceeded project goals.

Frequent Early Testing

Due to a compressed timeline and a fast-approaching launch, we managed just two pre-launch usability tests. While limited, this experience reinforced the critical value of early-stage testing. Identifying usability issues as early as the wireframe phase would have streamlined our workflow, avoiding last-minute adjustments. This project underscored the necessity of prioritizing early testing in future projects to uncover friction points early on, optimizing both time and user experience outcomes.

Prioritizing Clear Communication with Stakeholders and Team

Balancing a full-time UX/UI design role presented an initial challenge, underscoring the importance of streamlined communication across all project stakeholders. Recognizing this, I implemented regular check-ins and progress updates for our clients, project managers, and developers. These touchpoints fostered alignment on design decisions and milestones, allowing me to incorporate diverse perspectives and maintain transparency throughout the project. This approach emphasized the value of open, cross-functional collaboration, ultimately leading to a timely, high-quality project delivery. I’m grateful to my team for their responsiveness and support in making this process a success.

Insight 2

"Even after successfully completing payments, I've faced several issues during live interactive classes with the tutor. I can't get clear notes or assessments to test my knowledge, and I'm unable to ask questions or clarify doubts during the sessions. Additionally, the interaction with the tutor isn't seamless, and I don't receive notifications about upcoming classes or schedule updates."

Student

Main Problem

70% of students reported significant issues during live interactive classes, leading to uncertainty about continuing their courses and resulting in low enrollment on the platform. There was a lack of clear communication between tutors and students, with no proper schedule, notifications, or calendar updates regarding upcoming classes. This gap in clarity created confusion and a disconnect between enrolled students and their tutors, impacting the overall learning experience.

Recommendation 2

"Design student dashboards that display enrolled courses and upcoming classes, improving user comprehension of Physioeducator's services. By utilizing simplified language and a clear content hierarchy, the dashboard resolves confusion, enhances readability, and facilitates seamless live interactive classes."

We introduced weekly MCQ assessments for users after completing their classes, with each assessment tailored to the topics covered that week. These assessments include a due date, instructor name, and status tags like "Pending" and "Completed" for easy tracking. Users enrolled in 1:1 sessions receive personalized questions specific to their course, ensuring a customized learning experience. This design enhancement provides a clear, intuitive structure, helping students stay on top of their progress while promoting active engagement through specialized assessments.

In the previous design, the course details page was cluttered and lacked clarity, forcing users to navigate to a separate page to view upcoming classes, leading to unnecessary clicks and a fragmented experience. To streamline the user journey and enhance efficiency, we aimed to consolidate all key information onto a single page. After discussions with the team, we decided to implement a new layout where the scheduled and upcoming classes are displayed on a single page. Classes are color-coded—green for completed, yellow for upcoming, and red for missed—ensuring clarity and reducing user clicks, while also speeding up the development process.

Q&A Sections

We added a Q&A section for students to directly ask their tutors questions. Tutors can respond with their name and the date, ensuring any doubts or issues are addressed promptly.

1:1 Sessions

This includes day wise topics that will be covered.

Including instructor name, date and time duration. 1:1 sessions students will not be able to see missed classes and would update the tutor via mail.

CTA’s include View study notes once done and join class

Scheduled Classes

We introduced a structured schedule displaying day-wise topics, including the instructor's name, date, and class duration. For 1:1 sessions, students can't view missed classes but can update their tutor via email. Key CTAs such as "View Study Notes" and "Join Class" were integrated for seamless navigation. Additionally, a Q&A feature allows students to directly ask tutors questions, with responses organized by tutor name and date, ensuring clarity and quick issue resolution. This redesign enhances user engagement and ensures an intuitive experience, reducing friction during live classes.
